AGILE GORDON
Agility is a fun hobby to do with your dog that involves navigating obstacles in the correct order in a timely fashion.
Some dogs seem to be naturals and Jackjack certainly was special.
In the show ring you can achieve a Junior Warrant by gaining points at Open and Championship shows; there is a similar system in the sport of Agility. Points are achieved through either Jumping events or Agility events (the difference being the equipment used).

Bronze
Gain 200 points (50 of which must be from Agility)
Silver
Gain 400 points (100 of which must be from Agility)
Gold
Gain 800 points (200 of which must be from Agility)
Points are awarded for clear rounds only (where the dog goes the correct way within the allotted time without faults. Normally up to 10th place although you can get points if you have a clear round only but unplaced.
For Agility the points start at 20 for a 1st place and then on a sliding scale to 11th place with 11 points. (Only if a rosette is awarded to 11th place which is dependent upon entries). In Jumping the points range from 10 to 1 (1st to 11th again but only if clear and a rosette is awarded). Also you can only claim the clear round point if not claiming a placing point!
Jackjack gained his Bronze Agility Warrant AW(B) at the beginning of November 2023 with a total of 213 points. Of these 195 were gained in Agility. He loved agility. It was much more fun with contacts and weaves! And while there may be other Gordon Setters out their competing in agility, Jackjack also achieved his show title of Junior Warrant. Unfortunately Jackjack was taken too soon to go further with his points but no doubt he his still jumping for joy over the rainbow bridge and watching his son Dougie following in his footsteps.
